Description
Bibliology, or the doctrine of the Bible, is fundamental to Christian theology and holds significant importance for several reasons. Here the author presents the main points that highlight its relevance, by way of summary: Authority and Revelation, Doctrine and Teaching, Spiritual Life and Devotion, Preaching and Ministry, emphasising the Bible as the basis of preaching, teaching and discipleship. Pastors and spiritual leaders turn to the Scriptures to guide their sermons, Bible studies and training programmes. Bibliology ensures that these activities are carried out in accordance with biblical truth. Unity and Orthodoxy, Apologetics and the Defence of the Faith, Culture and Society, Interpretation and Hermeneutics, the study of hermeneutics, or the principles of biblical interpretation. This is vital to understanding the message of the Bible correctly and applying it properly to contemporary life. Bibliology provides the tools and methods necessary for a faithful and relevant interpretation of the Scriptures. In short, the doctrine of the Bible, or bibliology, is of vital importance because it establishes the authority and revelation of the Scriptures, grounds Christian doctrine and teaching, guides the spiritual life and personal devotion, supports preaching and ministry, maintains the unity and orthodoxy of the church, defends the faith, and provides principles for biblical interpretation. Its influence extends to culture and society, underlining the centrality of the Bible in every aspect of the Christian life. The present work addresses, in a biblical, historical, systematic and academically rigorous way, Bibliology, the discipline of Christian theology devoted to the study of the Holy Scriptures: their nature, origin, authority, inspiration, revelation, canon, transmission, interpretation and function within the life of the Church. Its importance is fundamental, since the understanding a Christian community develops about the Bible deeply conditions the way it builds its doctrine, interprets its faith, develops its mission and discerns its practice. The author undertakes this study from the conviction that Bibliology must not be reduced to a general defence of the importance of the Bible. It requires disciplined, methodical and systematic work that carefully examines Christian claims about the Scriptures and distinguishes concepts which, though related, carry specific theological meanings…
